Highlights

Hear the clickety-clack of horses galloping, the gentle trickling of shimmering streams and the familiar giggles of your favorite gals. Breathe the clean, pine-scented air and watch the sunrise and set over the mountains that surround your little slice of ranch-style paradise in Northern Idaho. These are the sights and sounds of the Red Horse Mountain Ranch, your gateway to the girls' getaway you’ll never forget.

Go horseback riding with your very own horse for the week. Try the daring, challenge course and adventurous, climbing wall. Go for a hike, take a backcountry bike tour, try fly fishing lessons—pretty much any outdoor pastime you can think of will be waiting for you on the ranch. Enjoy many chef-prepared meals paired with regional wines. Savor plenty of quiet moments just taking in the view or unwind in a soothing hot tub.

Whether you’re setting out on a mother-daughter vacation, class reunion, a sisters' get-together or you’re just friends catching up, Women Only Weeks at Red Horse Mountain Ranch are very special occasions. They’re the kind of trips you didn’t realize how much you needed until you’re out there experiencing the perfect blend of excitement and relaxation—just you and your girls under the big, blue Idaho sky.

Western-Style Horseback Riding

Riders have at least two opportunities for exhilarating, western-style horseback riding each day. There are rides scheduled throughout the week for all skill levels. All horseback rides leave from the valley and travel to unique vistas, viewpoints or peaks. Advanced riders must complete the advanced test to evaluate your ability to control your horse and to make sure you and your horse are a good match.

FAQ

That’s easy. The top three things mentioned in their reviews are the staff, the amount of guided adventures and the food. They will keep everyone (and they really mean everyone) so active and full during their stay, they’ll almost need a vacation from their vacation at the ranch and probably a diet. If you have a well-trained ranch staff, 300,000 stunning acres of Idaho forest, 100 horses and summer sun, it’s going to be tough finding anything better.

Horseback Riding

  • Jeans
  • Cowboy Boots. If you don’t own a pair of slick soled boots with a heel, they do have plenty of choices here for you to borrow for the week!
  • Past guests have mentioned if you are not accustomed to riding, a pair of padded biking shorts are very comfortable to wear under your pants while on horseback.
  • Gloves are sometimes recommended if you are going to be doing a lot of riding, or if the weather is cooler. They also have custom RHMR gloves for sale at the ranch.
  • In the case of rainy weather we have full length slickers to borrow, however a sweatshirt or zip-up fleece is never a bad idea for relaxing cool evenings and brisk mornings.

Water Activities for hot tubs, swimming pool, pond, mega zip, and kayaking. [Towels are provided.]

  • Swimsuits
  • Shorts
  • Sandals or water shoes
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Quick-dry clothing

Fishing

  • Similar to water activities.
  • They do provide all fishing gear on ranch and with their outfitters, but you are more than welcome to bring your own.

Afternoon & Evening Activities

  • Active and comfortable wear.
  • They provide all equipment for activities including eye and ear protection and water bottles.

Meal Attire

  • Again, comfort is key! They welcome and accept all dress at the ranch.
  • Some folks like to dress up a bit on the evening of their multi-course wine dinner, but it’s certainly not required.

Other Necessities [Keep in mind they do have these items available for purchase on the ranch.]

  • Flashlight
  • Insect repellent
  • Lip balm
  • Head protection
  • Bandana

Besides a hat, riding boots and clothing suggestions, no. All of the equipment for the activities is provided and available. However, if you would like to bring your own fly rod, etc., you may do so. We recommend if you have any questions to give the ranch a call to talk with one of the adventure guides. Each day at the Ranch, there is a menu of guided adventures available. Since you’ll be staying for the week, you’ll have the opportunity to do everything on the ranch. The schedule is located in the main lodge for all the guests to sign up for guided adventures whenever they would like. Parents or children (ages 3-10) can also sign themselves up for the Kids’ Program activities during the week. A typical day at the ranch includes an early morning activity—a morning horseback ride (or other activity), and an afternoon guided activity. Lots of choices every day!

They sure do. Plenty. So if you choose not to travel with a pair of slick soled boots you’re more than welcome to grab a pair from the Barn. Fair warning: sizes above 13 are hard to come by.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Prior to your arrival, they will have you fill out an Activity Form which includes any special dietary requests. Vegans, allergies, gluten-free, etc., are not a problem, but they do like to know of this well in advance so the menu can be adjusted accordingly. Gluten-Free, vegetarian, and allergies are very typical food requirements that their chefs take care of each week on the ranch.

Red Horse Mountain Ranch shuttle service is available from the Spokane, WA & Coeur d’Alene, ID regions. The shuttle service is usually the best option for those travelers with the ranch as their primary destination. If you are planning to travel onward after your stay, a rental car is usually a better option. From the Spokane Airport (Airport code GEG), the shuttle service takes approximately 1.5 hours—it takes 2 hours with getting your baggage and other traveling time to arrive at the Ranch. To be timed with your flight departures, your return trip to the airport will be scheduled 3 hours in advance of your flight, which has proven to give plenty of time, even with small children and checking baggage.

Will we have some downtime?

Yep. There are places to sit and take in the clean air and breathtaking views. You’ll be amazed at how quiet the ranch is when everyone is off on their own adventures with their guides.
