Natural Phenomena
At 1,385 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth and the largest natural spa in the world. Due to its high salt and mineral-rich content, the legendary Dead Sea water exudes powerful healing properties—treating skin conditions and rheumatic pain. Needless to say, visitors are more than happy to slather on the mud and let the minerals soothe the skin. Another Jordanian wonder is nestled between the mountains and hills nearby: Hammamat Ma’in Hot Springs, where cascading hyper-thermal waterfalls feed into the hot and cold springs in the valley.
History Abound
Probably the most-visited site in Jordan is Petra. And for good reason. The rose-red sandstone city was built in the 3rd century BC by Arabian nomads called the Nabateans, who carved intricate palaces, temples and tombs into cliff façades. Today it is a World Heritage Site and was voted as one of the seven new wonders of the world. Jordan’s capital Amman is a city of contrasts blending old and new. Visit the Citadel, a historic site comprising a wall that dates back to the Bronze Age, the iconic Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace. To truly get a taste of the city, stroll through some of the colorful souqs brimming with spices, antiques, handicrafts, soaps and magic carpets.
Adrenaline-Filled Experiences
From skydiving to horseback riding, Jordan is a playground for outdoor adventures. The hills, valleys, waterways and deserts are ideal for harrowing climbs and exhilarating skydives. Swim with sea turtles and dolphins in the Gulf of Aqaba. Discover what the underwater world reveals on a night dive as the nocturnal marine life search for a midnight snack. If you love adventure then you will love rock climbing on the cliffs of Wadi Rum. Last but not least, a visit to Jordan is not complete without a camel ride through the desert.
