At the heart of the boutique resort is Vida Mía, a healing center and spa where guests can experience the metaphysical healing energy of the Costa Rican rainforest. Carefully designed with ancient Feng Shui principles, guests choose from a menu of treatments along with the likes of acupuncture, reiki, detoxifying lymphatic drainage massage and dosha-balancing massage performed by the in-house Ayurvedic doctor. The Retreat cultivates its own medicinal herbs and makes scrubs, tinctures, oil infusions and creams for therapeutic and pampering beauty treatments (some are even edible!).

Activities

To complement the restorative experience at the spa, there’s an array of activities including daily yoga, fitness training at the gym and sunbathing by the pool to complete the wellness experience. Guests can also venture off-property to discover the biodiversity and nature of Costa Rica with daily hikes, excursions to waterfalls and volcanos, beach and surfing adventures, as well as deep dives into the culture with tours of coffee plantations and local towns.

Culinary Highlights

Food is the foundation at The Retreat with most of the produce grown in the organic garden right off the kitchen terrace. Each meal is "Chef’s choice" and customized to guests' needs, with vegan and vegetarian options available. While the menu is plant-based, local, sustainably-raised fish and meat are also served. The open-concept kitchen welcomes guests to observe, ask questions and participate in one of the many weekly cooking classes.

Accommodations

Each of the 19 guest rooms is named for the plants and superfoods grown on the property. There are no phones or TVs in the rooms so as not to disturb the peaceful ambiance. The bedding is plush and the amenities are organic and natural. The deluxe rooms are cozy and comfortable with the charm of home. Located in the garden area, guests have the choice of a King-sized bed or Queen option plus Hollywood twins.
