About Quinta Splendida Wellness & Botanical Garden

Madeira is often dubbed the "floating garden in the Atlantic" so it comes as no surprise that Quinta Splendida Wellness & Botanical Garden is set amidst palm trees swaying side by side and landscaped gardens with over 1,000 species of flora. Boasting two swimming pools, a putting green, an Asian-inspired spa with a Finnish sauna, a hammam steam bath and an igloo room with ice fountain, the hotel is all about relaxation and soaking up the beauty of the island. Guests can choose from a trio of restaurants—including Portuguese gastronomy, a quick meal overlooking the pool or authentic Thai—and two bars with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. For those who care to venture off-property, the charming village of Caniço is a short stroll away and the hotel staff is happy to assist with bike rentals and other activities such as hiking, golfing, diving and whale watching. If you're looking for somewhere to recharge your batteries on the island of Maderia, make it Quinta Splendida.

What We Love

Quinta Splendida's history dates back to the 19th century and a pink-and-tan manor house linked to aristocratic families. From the moment you arrive, you truly feel like you've stepped into a palatial colonial setting—lush greenery, palm trees swaying in the wind, brick-colored tiled floors, a refreshing swimming pool with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and a botanical garden with over 1,000 species of flora. Whatever you choose to do, a stay here is one for the relaxation books. Lounge by the pool. Reflect in the gardens. Get pampered at the Asian-inspired spa with its exotic treatments ranging from hot stone and hot spice-fruit stamp massages to facials, hammam steam baths and body wraps. The grounds are absolutely serene and you feel as if you are in a tropical oasis.

The contemporary design spa is one of the largest in Madeira and features all the latest Asian spa trends. Treatments range from hot stone and hot spice-fruit stamp massages to facials and body wraps. The spa brings the outdoors in, with rocks popping up in the treatment rooms and pool area. Try the far-eastern style mud bath, Finnish sauna and Turkish hammam steam room. For something a bit different, visit the igloo room with ice fountain. There’s also a small fitness area with cardio machines and weights.

Quinta Splendida is geared toward relaxation. The large outdoor heated pool is surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs and offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean; while the indoor heated pool is located in the spa where you can jump between the hot and cold temperatures of the ice plunge pool and the Finnish sauna. Ping pong and fitness room available near the outdoor swimming pool. For daily color therapy, take a meditative stroll through the landscaped botanical gardens or bring a book and lounge on one of several sunbeds scattered throughout the gardens. The staff is happy to assist with bike rentals and car hire. Activities around the island include hiking, golfing, diving and whale watching.
