About Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän

If the Finns love anything it’s a trip to the sauna and a dip in the lake. Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän holds both experiences sacred—but adds a twist as an eco-friendly lake spa. And although the family-run resort has been welcoming guests since 1658 with its rustic decor, rugged rock walls and natural stone tiles, Järvisydän is very much present day. Unspoiled wilderness, yoga, e-fatbike rentals and a spa heated by geothermal and solar energy create an authentic yet modern nature-inspired spa retreat. Sweat, swim and purify your soul in five different types of saunas and six pools. Breathe in the clean air and learn the secrets of Finland’s green forests and largest lake while you pause and appreciate daily life. Feel the nightless nights in the summer, the quiet and dark sky in the winter. If you're lucky, you may even catch the Northern Lights.

What We Love

If you really want an authentic taste of Finland, this is it. You have the lake, you have nature, you have the food but most of all you have the sauna. Five different saunas in fact. Plus six pools because you need to jump into water after a good sweat. There's even a large sauna with glass windows and a flight of stairs that lead to the lake for those brave enough to take a dip in the icy waters. The heart of the property is the Lake Spa which is built under forest terrain around natural rock and uses fresh lake water and centuries-old sunken logs to create a genuine and relaxing experience. Besides sauna you can go hiking, cross-country skiing, long-distance skating and ice fishing. On-site equipment rentals are available for e-fatbikes, cross-country skis, snowshoes, skates and kick sleds. During the summer months, sightseeing cruises around Lake Saimaa are popular to watch the endangered ringed seals play. Indoor activities include yoga classes ranging from vinyasa to aerial to hot in the specially designed loft. For adventurous yogis, the resort offers SUP yoga on the lake in the summer.

Spa

The Lake Spa is built under forest terrain around natural rock and uses fresh lake water and centuries-old sunken logs to create a genuine and relaxing experience. The spa features five saunas—stone, hammam, steam, infrared, sunken log—and six swimming pools including two that are outdoor. A separate sauna facility consisting of three different types of saunas and an outdoor hot tub is by the lake. There's even a large sauna with glass windows and a flight of stairs that lead to the lake for those brave enough to take a dip in the icy waters of Lake Saimaa. In addition to facials, hot stone and classical massages, the day spa offers peat therapies and special pampering treatments that are distinctively Finnish.

Activities

Finnish nature never sleeps and activities at Järvisydän are designed around the region’s five seasons with winter divided into autumn-winter and spring-winter. The staff can help arrange guided hiking tours, cross-country skiing, long-distance skating and ice fishing excursions in the nearby national park. On-site equipment rentals are available for e-fatbikes, cross-country skis, snowshoes, skates and kick sleds. Starting in May, sightseeing cruises around Lake Saimaa are popular to watch the endangered ringed seals play. Indoor activities include yoga classes ranging from vinyasa to aerial to hot in the specially designed loft. For adventurous yogis, the resort offers SUP yoga on the lake in the summer.

Culinary Highlights

Step back in time and experience traditional Finnish dining where local culinary specialties are served on wood platters and sizzling iron pans. Add to the ambiance with candlelit tables near an open fireplace. Breakfast is included, lunch is served buffet style and dinner is a three-course meal with meat, fish and vegetarian options. A light bistro menu is served at the bar. In the summer the restaurant opens up onto a spacious terrace.

Accommodations

From scenery suites with views of the Northern Lights to private villas to a houseboat, there is accommodation for every taste. The resort’s main building houses guest rooms and suites. Scenery suites accommodate 2 or 4 persons and feature large scenic windows with amazing views of the starry sky or nightless night. The hillside and lakeside villas accommodate larger groups and are ideal for privacy. Each villa features a living room and a fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher. The lakeside villa features a private sauna and beach. Log villas are right in the middle of the action and are perfect for families. For guests who want added luxury, there are two houseboats equipped with a wood-heated sauna, fireplace, two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a living room/kitchenette and three different patios. The latest addition to the resort is the Kota Hotel featuring three "bungalows" with glass-domed suites. Each Kota building consists of 7 rooms (6 double rooms and one family room) and a lounge that functions as a communal living room.
