Spice It Up
Tanzania is probably one of the only countries where you can witness herds of wildlife thundering across the Serengeti followed by a relaxing stint on a stunning beach. Zanzibar is an archipelago east of the mainland and is all about white sand beaches, turquoise seas and spice-laden East African trade winds. Also known as Spice Island, Zanzibar is home to spices like black pepper, cardamom, clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. The exotic islands are also a haven for big game fish. Surrounded by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and coral reefs, Zanzibar is a diver’s paradise with something for everyone from snorkelers, micro lovers to deep divers.
Iconic Peak
Mount Kilimanjaro is unquestionably a legend. The mountain is popular with both experienced and first-time hikers as it is surprisingly easy to climb. Some say the opportunity to stand on the snow-capped summit is a life-changing experience. West Kilimanjaro is an area of unparalleled beauty and where the Maasai tribe lives in family compounds called bomas. Despite being one of the smallest tribes in Africa, the Maasai have a distinctively rich culture and lifestyle, and are best known for their brightly colored shuka and beaded head collars—which make them stand out against the neutral countryside.
Wild Side
The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest park as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is teeming with big herds, big cats and the spectacular wildebeest migration. All the major safari animals appear in impressive numbers from the iconic Big 5 roaming freely to the much smaller creatures such as butterflies and the dung beetle. The scenery and landscape are stunning and renowned for its grassland plains in the southeast, rocky hills in the north, and valleys, rivers and forest to the west. There is never a bad time to visit as the Serengeti offers amazing wildlife viewing throughout the year.
