Well Q&A: Lesley Lupo’s Inspiring Journey

Last updated November 3, 2023

I’ve been many places and experienced many spa and wellness modalities but I’ve never met someone who has had a Near Death Experience (NDE). Well, now I have. Intuitive Life Coach Lesley Lupo has an unusual set of skills and life experiences that fascinates and challenges me in different ways.

Her book, Remember, Every Breath is Precious: Dying Taught Me How to Live, reveals her profound near-death experience in a stampede of horses and explains how she lives in a state of love rather than a state of fear—something I strive for.

But, I would not be completely honest with you or myself if I didn’t tell you that I am skeptical about anyone who is referred to as a “mystic.” Speaking with Lesley has opened my mind, my eyes and my heart and I hope it will open yours as well.

Get to Know Lesley Lupo

Sallie: What makes you want to get up in the morning?

Lesley: I’ve decided to learn and grow for the rest of my life, so each day brings the opportunity of discovering new directions, new growth, and new laughter. The love I share with my family and friends. Last, but not least, the work I do brings me the deepest sense of purpose. When I have a client “get it,” their celebration of a different way to live and love is like icing on the cake.

Sallie: You are one of the very few people I’ve met (albeit not yet in person) who has had a Near Death Experience (NDE). What do you remember most about it?

Lesley: Oh, my! How much time do you have? The overwhelming, constant love and peace I felt stunned me at first. The love I felt coming to me from everything I saw, and flowing back from me, made me giddy. Upstairs, I didn’t have the “fight or flight” hardwired into my perception. That alone made everything perfect in spite of the fact I had no expectations and had no idea where I was. To be free from all fear indicated that the human reflex is not “me,” because I also have an immortal soul within. Now, with a bit of practice, when I feel the fight/flight reflex begin, I can take a breath and understand this isn’t the true me, giving me the chance to react from love, not fear.

Sallie: What does it mean to be an Intuitive Therapist?

Lesley: I define intuition as sensing the magnetic fields around people and things. We all have it; most people are aware of having a flash of intuition. Some people have a bit more and can deliberately tune into it. I have a B.A. in Developmental Psych, so combining it with my own intuition, I look into the client’s aura, their conscious and subconscious, and make sure those two parts are working as a team and are not in conflict. It is like taking a guided inner journey. Most come away with a bit of homework that will solidify any new insights. It is spiritual life coaching.

Sallie: You are the author of the book, “Remember, Every Breath is Precious.” I’m curious as to what some of your favorite books are.

Lesley: While it is hard to pinpoint one book, my own personal choices run the gamut from anything by Rumi to good English mysteries to the new scientists that are “discovering” the Soul. Three books that helped me put logic back in my life as I struggled to understand were Journey of Souls by Michael Newton, Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav and eventually Lessons from the Light by Kenneth Ring. Many books by people like Gary Schwartz, Fred Alan Wolf, Rupert Sheldrake, Dean Radin and Brian Weiss along with writings like the Tao and the Bhagavad Gita helped me to ground my own spiritual path.

Sallie: I know you’ve worked at Canyon Ranch for many years.  Can you tell me three things that make CR so special in your opinion?

Lesley: First and foremost, their open mind about all things spiritual and metaphysical is combined with common sense. They have built an environment where the spiritual aspect is cherished and promoted as it is part of the human psyche and to be in balance, it has to be a part of our lives.

Secondly, they research everything before they offer it to the guests and have remained cutting edge for the entire time I’ve worked there. For example, I learned about the arterial damage dental plaque can do to your heart years before it was the cover story in Newsweek.

Third, the guests who come to Canyon Ranch are some of the most wonderful people that I have had the pleasure to work with. Also, the people I work with are all dedicated to help people on their journeys. As smarmy as it sounds, we do work as a great team and to be surrounded by like-minded people is ideal. People come to Canyon Ranch for introspection, to elevate their body/mind/ spirit and enjoy the process.

Sallie: Tell us a little bit about your personal “wellness routine.” What do you do for your own wellbeing?

Lesley: I set aside the time I need to keep my life in balance, body and spirit. I exercise, read, meditate, laugh, watch sports (I’m from Chicago so I’m practicing non-attachment), write in my gratitude journal, write about my next book for empaths and work on my little organic farm.

Sallie: Do you have a quote or book that has inspired you?

Lesley: I have a few quotes that inspire the way that I live:
“Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.” –Anonymous
“The ability to observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence.” –Krishnaurti
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look inside your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.” –Carl Jung
