6 Best Connecticut Spa Resorts

Last updated January 17, 2024

Connecticut is a quintessential New England destination, especially if you’re looking for a Connecticut spa resort.

The state is filled with rolling hills, vineyards, wooded hiking trails adjacent to flowing streams, quaint shops and unique restaurants. And it is also home to more than one well-known Connecticut spa.

Furthermore, Connecticut’s proximity to major urban centers like New York City and Boston enhances its appeal. This makes Connecticut an accessible haven for those yearning for a moment of respite.

Six Connecticut Spa Resorts for Serenity

Beyond its scenic beauty, Connecticut boasts a rich tapestry of upscale wellness resorts that offer comprehensive programs, ranging from indulgent spa treatments to holistic mind-body practices.

Here are our six top choices for a Connecticut spa resort getaway.

1. Winvian Farm — Morris

There’s a reason this Connecticut spa resort consistently ranks as one of the best in the U.S. The bucolic setting in upscale Litchfield County, the delicious seed-to-table food and the unique accommodations.

The adults-only spa is exceptional, with a relaxing solarium, blue-tiled changing area and a co-ed sauna. The pampering experience comprises a variety of massage techniques, including a couples’ massage that can be performed outdoors when the weather cooperates. Aestheticians provide Yon-Ka facials, a French line of exclusive products delivered via a specialized protocol that leans into facial and upper body massage. The spa is available to guests and day visitors alike.

And then there are the 18 luxury cottages spread around the 113-acre property—each distinct and with a theme. One has an actual Coast Guard helicopter as its centerpiece. Another is designed around a huge charter oak tree. A third is like a tree house and a fourth has an actual beaver lodge as its bed canopy. All contain kitchenettes and jacuzzi tub/shower bathrooms.

Designed to accommodate a couple, many have pullout couches that can convert into beds for kids. For those requiring more space, a large suite can be booked in the main building, a New England-style white clapboard home with sections dating back to 1775. The rustic setting belies a theme of “curated luxury.”

The property is adjacent to a nature preserve and offers all manner of activities year-round. These range from snow shoeing in the winter to horseback riding or swimming in an outdoor pool in warmer months.

2. The Mayflower Inn & Spa — Washington

Not far from Winvian Farm and also located in Litchfield County in the northwestern part of Connecticut, the peaceful and serene Mayflower Inn & Spa is the epitome of old New England style, elegance and refinement. An Auberge Resorts property, the Inn is set far back from the road in the rural town of Washington. It was also the inspiration for The Gilmore Girls’ Dragonfly Inn.

The stately exterior is filled with gardens, green lawns and woodlands; the interior contains 28 rooms and seven suites. The 19th-century inn was updated in 2020, and the décor is country traditional and ultra tasteful. Seasonally themed meals are served in The Garden Room, a formal indoor-outdoor dining room. Alternatively, guests can choose to dine in the more casual Tap Room, which serves pub fare and bar snacks. Guests can also dine at the spa for a taste of New England’s freshest, health-forward dishes before or after their sumptuous treatments.

The spa is its own main attraction and is located in a separate facility from the inn. Designed and operated by the luxury health club The Well, the focus is on holistic, East-meets-West restorative services. Guests can receive custom spa treatments along with medical and health coaching services, take part in movement classes and opt into weekly experience programs.

Those wishing to make The Well a constant in their lives can purchase memberships to the Connecticut spa, one of the perks of which is that they can also visit The Well located in New York City.

3. The Spa at Norwich Inn — Norwich

In the eastern part of the state, this award-winning historic boutique inn and spa has long been a Connecticut spa favorite for vacationers and day visitors. It is now owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which also operates the nearby Foxwoods Casino and has a Norwich Spa of its own.

The large spa area has 27 treatment rooms, as well as a sauna, salon, fitness center and indoor pool. As at other spas, guests can sign up for a customized program of spa treatments and movement classes. Health and wellness spa memberships are available for people local to the area.

The inn has 100 traditionally furnished rooms and suites, which are located in the main building or in 21 villas dotted around the 42-acre property.  The main restaurant, Kensington’s, is chic and modern. You can also eat at Ascot’s Pub or the juice bar in the spa lobby.

It’s lovely to take a walk around the property in the warmer months and fill your senses with the sights and sounds of perennial flowers, oak trees, fountains, a reflecting pool and a courtyard. Amenities include several outdoor pools and tennis courts.

4. Old Saybrook Point Inn & Marina — Old Saybrook

On the Long Island Sound in eastern Connecticut, the cheerful, bright-yellow Old Saybrook Point Inn rises off a spit of land at a marina. Eighty-two guests rooms and suites decorated in classic Yankee style with a maritime touch are available for booking in the main building. Guest houses and villas around the property can also be reserved—and you can bring your dog along for your stay!

Guests can enjoy meals at Fresh Salt, the Inn’s signature restaurant featuring seasonal and land- and sea-fresh cuisine. You can also order off the Fresh Salt menu in the Choo Choo Lounge in the lobby or have drinks in the Marina Bar with its views of the Sound. The spa, fitness center and indoor and outdoor pools are located near one another in the main building.

The spa is quiet and lovely with highly skilled aestheticians and massage therapists, and offers a large menu of Eminence and Circadia facials, and a variety of massages and specialized body treatments, as well as nail services.  Local membership and day packages are available.

5. Mohegan Sun Casino — Uncasville

The Mohegan Sun Casino, owned by the Mohegan Tribe of native Americans, has a Mandara Spa, a global luxury spa chain that emphasizes Balinese healing and beauty principles and European techniques.

Located far from the chaos of the casino floor, the spa is a serene space, with 21 treatment rooms, a nail salon and separate steam rooms, saunas and whirlpools for male and female guests. Spa day passes are available to both guests and non-guests of the casino.

6. Foxwoods Resort Casino — Mashantucket

Foxwoods, which is a much larger casino than Mohegan Sun, has two elegant and tranquil spas. G-Spa caters to adults ages 21 and up, and has a menu of massages and facials; while The Norwich Spa at Foxwoods has a nature-inspired menu and allows guests ages 18 and up to receive services. Both spas have indoor pools, whirlpools, salons and fitness centers, and offer day passes for guests and non-guests.
