Canyon Ranch will always hold a special place in my heart. When I turned 35, as a birthday gift my mom planned a stay for us at the Lenox, MA location. This birthday trip started a long tradition of yearly visits until she passed away.
Because of my time spent at Canyon Ranch, I’ve incorporated many changes into my life through the years. In fact, it was so transformational that I changed my career from entertainment to the spa/wellness industry! That is the true power of immersive wellness experiences.
I knew immediately that I wanted to include Canyon Ranch in my Well Q&A column. Doris Lopez—Vice President of Health and Healing for Canyon Ranch (Tucson, Lenox and Woodside)—is joining me as my latest guest.
Because of COVID-19, we have only met virtually, but I know she is as passionate as I am about Canyon Ranch’s ability to produce meaningful health results. I think you’ll enjoy getting to know her as well!

Health, Healing and Transformation at Canyon Ranch
Doris: I am a certified Wellness and Resiliency Coach. I feel so fortunate that I was able to turn my holistic passion into a meaningful career. I get to empower clients to choose health-promoting ways to produce real, meaningful and lasting results. It’s my job to develop and execute Health and Healing strategies for all Canyon Ranch entities. How cool is that?!
D: I am a Mexican American, but my mother was pure Mayan Indian 😊.
D: I take pride in knowing that through my expertise our Canyon Ranch guests gain access to personalized, evidence-based care that can ultimately transform their lives.
D: My very first job was at age 15. I worked as a receptionist after school for our neighborhood pediatrician. It was through this experience of working with children that I became “hooked.” I appreciated the intricacies of the human body. As my career progressed, I became more and more intrigued that our wellness comes not just from physical health, but from mental health and spiritual health as well. That is why I become a Wellness Coach. My executive role at Canyon Ranch allows me to conceive new ideas, programs and strategies that allow our guests to deepen their personal growth, self-development and provide a healthier lifestyle.
D: We offer a truly integrative model of care at Canyon Ranch. I would recommend working with our world-renown physicians and endorse a precision prevention medical consultation. This consult will consider individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person. It is a contrast to a one-size-fits-all approach, in which disease treatment and prevention strategies are developed for the average person, with less consideration for the differences between individuals.
D: Woodside presents wellness seekers with community-driven, introspective and nature-infused experiences for rejuvenation and restoration. This compliments the transformative offerings found at Canyon Ranch Wellness Resorts. Woodside is home to 14 guest rooms in the main Retreat lodge building and 24 additional guest rooms in standalone luxury treehouses. Woodside can accommodate 76 total guests.
D: I personally walk 2-3 miles daily. I also practice Pilates weekly. It’s important to move your body daily and stay active. This will keep your immune system strong. I also take vitamin D and Zinc daily to further boost my immune system.
D: Our team of medical experts have ensured that Canyon Ranch has taken the utmost precautions to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 at our properties. Canyon Ranch has always provided a respite for the mind, body and spirit and will continue to do so.
The new Canyon Ranch Woodside reimagines the wellness retreat, with focused daily programming, and weekly availability for individual wellness seekers Thursday-Monday.
