Even a habit as simple as taking the stairs instead of using the elevator can empower you to live a wellness lifestyle every day.
When it comes to a wellness lifestyle, though, most people think about it in terms of physical health—weight management, exercise, nutrition—but this is actually just one aspect.
According to the Global Wellness Institute, wellness is the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health (integrating physical, mental and spiritual well-being), fueling the body, engaging the mind and nurturing the spirit.
And that’s what the annual World Wellness Weekend (WWW) is all about: a collective coming together of wellness enthusiasts who inspire each other to make healthier life choices and enjoy an active lifestyle beyond the weekend celebrations.
That means fitness facilities, resorts, spas, salons and yoga studios around the world are motivating people to “nurture a revitalized body, a quiet mind and a peaceful heart.”
Change your habits; change your life
So much of a healthy lifestyle is made up of the small things that you do daily—and when done consistently add up to amazing, lasting results.
Launched in 2017, World Wellness Weekend has been empowering millions of people through fun, free and meaningful wellness activities, classes, workshops and talks organized in more than 120 countries.
“There is no nobler mission in life than to encourage each and everyone to become the best version of themselves (physically, mentally and emotionally).”World Wellness Weekend founder, Jean-Guy de Gabriac
Through this initiative, wellness weekenders have the opportunity to adopt a healthy lifestyle by exploring alternative treatments, fitness classes, workshops and retreats such as sylvotherapy, Reiki, barre, sound therapy, Nordic walking, aquafit, sauna Aufguss and laughter yoga.
Although the event itself takes place over a weekend, the intention is to encourage everyone to be more active, more often—with the support of a fitness or wellness buddy.
The most important thing to remember is that you can make a difference in your health and well-being.
WWW’s founder Jean-Guy de Gabriac shares five pillars of a wellness lifestyle that are easy to work into your everyday routine:
Sleep & Creativity
Tired of being tired? Restorative sleep is the foundation of rest and rejuvenation. And the amount of sleep you get has a big impact on your creativity. Better sleep helps the brain make connections and solve problems, powering the creative process.
Nutrition & Immunity
To function well, your immune system requires balance and harmony. And your first line of defense to boost immunity is a healthy diet—think more fruit and vegetables; less processed foods and high simple sugars.
Vitality & Movement
Exercise can have an enormous impact on your mood by increasing serotonin, plus can be just as effective as anti-depressants in treating mild depression. Exercise also increases your level of endorphins, which are natural mood lifters. So take care of your body; it’s the only place you can live in.
Serenity & Mindfulness
A calm mind is an oasis in the middle of all the “busy-ness” of life and is the safe space where you can recharge before heading back into the hustle-bustle. Research suggests that tapping into a mindful and calm state helps you to become more resilient.
Purpose & Solidarity
Some people wake up to an alarm clock while others wake up to a calling. Studies show that people who are most likely to find meaning and purpose in life are the ones who value work and responsibility; accept what they can control and what they can’t; show compassion and are ready to serve those around them.
Creating a life that feels good on the inside surely shows on the outside.
