Snapshot
- Arizona spa resorts are desert and red rock hotels built around full-service spas, stretching from Sedona's canyons down to the Sonoran Desert outside Tucson.
- Sedona holds four of them. Amara, L'Auberge de Sedona and Enchantment all look out on red rock, and Mii amo has Boynton Canyon to itself.
- CIVANA, The Boulders, Sanctuary Camelback Mountain and The Phoenician are all under an hour from Phoenix, which makes them the easy pick for a long weekend.
- Mii amo, Miraval Arizona and Canyon Ranch Tucson are destination spas rather than resorts with a spa attached, so meals and programming come with the room.
- CIVANA centers its spa on water therapy. The Boulders keeps its spa adults-only, and Mii amo takes guests sixteen and older.
- Golfers get course access at The Boulders, Enchantment and The Phoenician.
With its magical desert landscapes, energy vortices and red rock scenery, Arizona might just be the spa resort capital of the U.S.
From desert rose treatments and aura readings to warm turquoise clay wraps, Arizona’s spa resorts take wellness in some unexpected directions. Add dramatic landscapes, mineral-rich waters and plenty of sunshine, and you have a pretty compelling case for a spa getaway here.
Ten Arizona Luxury Spa Resorts
Arizona has no shortage of spa resorts, so narrowing down where to stay isn’t easy. Here are ten standouts, starting in Sedona and working our way south to Tucson.
1. Amara Resort & Spa — Sedona

A few minutes from Uptown Sedona, Amara puts you close to the town’s restaurants and galleries without giving up the red-rock views. The infinity pool faces the cliffs, while the spa weaves in local lavender and sage. The resort is a good choice if you want spa time paired with easy access to “city” life.
2. L’Auberge de Sedona — Sedona

L’Auberge’s cottages line Oak Creek beneath old sycamores, with some featuring open-roof cedar showers. At the spa, you can create your own scrub or oil from herbs and botanicals, then take home whatever you don’t use. Sound healing and creekside yoga add a more spiritual side to the experience.
3. Enchantment Resort — Sedona

Enchantment sits low in Boynton Canyon, where red-rock walls rise around low-slung adobe casitas. The big draw is access to Mii amo, its sister destination spa next door, where treatments draw on Native American traditions. Note that Mii amo is for guests 16 and older.
4. Mii amo — Sedona

Mii amo takes an immersive approach to spa travel, with treatments, meals and wellness experiences wrapped into its all-inclusive Journeys. The Boynton Canyon location and rituals such as the Crystal Grotto ceremony give the stay a contemplative feel. Journeys start at three nights, with arrivals on Thursdays and Sundays.
5. CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa — Carefree

CIVANA looks out at Black Mountain from the desert north of Scottsdale. Your stay includes daily fitness, meditation and movement classes, plus access to the Aqua Vitality Circuit, with Kneipp walks, soaking and cold deluge showers. The spa is 18 and older.
6. Boulders Resort & Spa — Carefree

The Boulders gets its name honestly. Granite formations surround the casitas, giving this Carefree resort a distinctly rugged setting. The adults-only spa incorporates desert ingredients into its treatments, while a walking labyrinth offers another way to slow things down.
7. Sanctuary Camelback Mountain — Paradise Valley

Sanctuary is built into the north slope of Camelback Mountain, with terraces, gardens and an infinity pool stepping down the hillside. The spa draws on Asian-inspired treatments, a departure from the desert botanicals found at many Arizona resorts. Request an upper-terrace casita if the view matters to you.
8. The Phoenician — Scottsdale

The Phoenician brings a grander style to the Scottsdale spa scene, with a three-floor spa and 24 treatment rooms at the foot of Camelback Mountain. Spa guests also get access to the rooftop pool. Book a treatment, then make a day of it.
9. Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa — Tucson

The Santa Catalinas are Miraval’s backyard, with saguaro and Sonoran Desert all around. With 200-plus wellness activities, you can move from Ayurveda and acupuncture to Thai bodywork, meditation or a hike. Gratuities are included, too, so there’s one less thing to think about.
10. Canyon Ranch Tucson — Tucson

Canyon Ranch is less traditional spa getaway and more full-on wellness program. Physicians, dietitians and other specialists work alongside the treatment team, with more than 200 services and activities to choose from. Staff can help you figure out what’s worth your time rather than leaving you to navigate it all yourself.
