Thinking of Relocating? Study Reveals the Best Cities for Vegetarians

Last updated August 18, 2023

Remote working during this pandemic has sparked an unprecedented shift toward work-from-anywhere policies, opening up the possibility for workers to move to areas that cater to them best post-pandemic.

If you lead a plant-based lifestyle, a new study from Nestpick—a handy platform for finding furnished apartments—provides insight into the most vegetarian-friendly cities around the world.

The Vegetarian Cities Index 2021 rankings are based on the affordability and quality of each city’s vegetarian offerings, including the cost of food and the number of veg-friendly restaurants, as well as lifestyle-related events and festivals.

London and Glasgow, UK, Berlin and Munich in Germany and Vienna, Austria rounded out the top five cities globally. In the USA, L.A. was number one, followed by San Francisco, New York, Atlanta and Miami.

“With more and more people looking to reduce their meat consumption, cities must cater to these needs with diverse vegetarian offerings if they want to attract young talent, particularly Millennials, Gen Z, and the even younger generations to come,” comments Omer Kucukdere, Founder and CEO at Nestpick.

“We hope that this index can inspire vegetarians looking to move abroad to pick the right city for their needs, or even offer travel destination ideas for those searching for the best plant-based gastronomic spots.”

“While there are undoubtedly countless cities that are incredible for vegetarians around the world which do not feature in this index due to a lack of available data, we believe that this shortlist offers an excellent springboard for vegetarians looking to move abroad.”

You can find the complete list of rankings and methodology over at Nestpick.
