7 Top Spas in Riviera Maya

Last updated August 22, 2023

With the world at our digital fingertips and passport (or Real ID) access, you may wonder—why focus on spas in Riviera Maya? For those who have visited Mexico’s Riviera Maya, this region may seem like a no brainer for top quality spa and resort destinations.

I will personally add that Riviera Maya is rich in cultural healing modalities, incredible jungle and ocean views, fairly easy access to/from the U.S., and growing in its wellness focus and high-end appeal.

Where Is Riviera Maya Located in Mexico?

Riviera Maya, in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, is an 80-mile stretch of Caribbean coastline that runs along the Yucatán Peninsula. The region is best known for its all-inclusive resorts and luxury resort spas and covers all of Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos and Playacar (to name a few popular destinations).

Because of Riviera Maya’s proximity to the equator, the region is blessed with a warm, tropical climate year-round. There’s never a bad time to visit. That said, December through March is the peak season with an average temperature in the low 80s. The summer months tend to be hot and steamy, while September through January have the highest chance of tropical storms and hurricanes.

When it comes to logistics, most direct flights from the U.S. are accessible mainly through Cancun International Airport (CUN).

Top Seven Spas in Riviera Maya

So, without further ado, here are my seven top spas in Riviera Maya, from the beaches of Cancun to the jungles of Tulum.

1. Atlantis Spa | Palmaïa, The House of AïA

In a private area known as Playacar, just north of Playa del Carmen, Palmaïa, The House of AïA is tucked away in the Mayan jungle with full oceanfront property.

The eco spa, Atlantis, is located along the single pathway that lines the property. Inside, you will find yourself on a jungle journey to each of the private treatment rooms that are surrounded by plush jungle greens—leaving nature as little disturbed as possible.

Find pure rejuvenation and life in either their Temazcal stone hut, their beauty bar or the spa treatment menu. We recommend the Pre-Hispanic Ritual, a revitalizing scrub, facial and energy massage mixed with traditional herbs to fully rebalance.

2. Conrad Spa Tulum | Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya

As the name suggests, Conrad Tulum is located in Tulum just north of the infamous Mayan pyramids. Set off privately from the rest of the resort, the Conrad Spa Tulum hosts 16 individual treatment rooms, or casitas.

Set off as separate for personal space and peace, the therapies combine art, tradition and science that stem from ancient histories of medicine along with modern cultural appeal and architecture.

We recommend you book at least half the day to enjoy the full spa offering of water therapies, steam, sauna, hot stone beds and open air meditation waiting room views.

3. Maya Spa | Azulik Tulum

While Azulik needs little to no introduction in the Tulum area, the Maya Spa, on the other hand, is something you should not miss in this adult jungle paradise. Experience an energetic purification massage overlooking the turquoise waters. Or indulge in an energetic sound healing bath under the giant teepeed hut in the center of the energies.

Each of their treatment categories breaks down into the elements of Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Sky. We recommend checking out the Ancient Traditional Massage, under their “Fire” category. This treatment detoxifies your body using elements handed down through generations of Mexican culture and includes herbs, ancient massage techniques, cupping and energy healing.

4. SE Spa | Grand Velas Riviera Maya

A spa that has received some of the highest accolades in resorts and particularly in Mexico, the SE Spa is a complete journey to well-being. Located within the highly coveted Grand Velas Riviera Maya, this spa is massive in size and offerings.

Featuring a Water Ceremony with eight unique water experiences, skin restorative experiences, massage rituals and a calming sanctuary, the SE Spa is one to get lost in as your mind and worries drift away for the day.

We recommend checking out the Flavors & Traditions of Mexico, which takes you through the ancient knowledge of the Mayan culture and the healing benefits of herbs, sacred plants and medicines.

5. Sense | Rosewood Mayakoba Riviera Maya Resort

The Sense spa is located within the heart of Mayakoba and is hidden from the escape of the hotel in its own jungle and literally, its own island. With twelve treatment rooms, the spa menu is inspired by Mayan culture.

Be sure to check out their Cenote Temazcal Purification for a traditional healing journey of renewal.

Another unique experience is the “Kuxtal” Sensory Garden Ritual, named after the Mayan word for life. The customized journey begins with a fusion of aromas, sounds and taste that awaken each of the five senses.

6. Chablé Spa | Chablé Maroma

Chablé has two locations in Mexico with the Chablé Maroma situated in Riviera Maya. At the heart of Chablé is luxury and well-being, thus the Chablé Spa no less aims to meet that high level of healing expectation.

Enjoy rituals of floral balms, citrus and essential oils, coffee scrubs and energizing crystals. We recommend booking the Sea And Sky Conditioning Treatment, a healing massage that conditions your body’s largest organ, the skin.

7. Cenote Spa | Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen

The Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen is minutes away from the hustle of “La Quinta” in the heart of Playa del Carmen, yet secluded in luxurious peace away from the party scene.

The resort’s Cenote Spa is located in the center of the property. Mayan-inspired therapies feature obsidian hot stone massages and treatments with healing aloe, cocoa and Mexican plant extracts.

There are eight treatment rooms for both singles and couples, many of which have direct views of the jungle. The spa includes a volcanic-shaped meditation area, fresh juices, hydrotherapy stations, sauna, eucalyptus steam room and chromotherapy showers.

Wellness Travel in Mexico

There are many spas of notable mention that we could have mentioned on this list. But we feel these 7 spas in Riviera Maya have a taste of culture, class and restoration to best suit your well-being needs.

In short, Riviera Maya is one of my favorite restorative, creative and energetic places in the world. There’s something to be felt in this region of the world, that is difficult to put into words. Once you experience and feel it, you know as well how unique it is to its geographic location in the world.
