Fit, Fun, and Forever Memories

Fit, Fun and Forever Memories –  by Wendy LaTorre   04/16/2019

I’m one of those people that MUST work out – if not, I am cranky, crabby, ill-tempered, and any other way you want to describe completely out of sorts.

I have a fitness background, and have been a 6 day a weaker for over 30 years now.  I used to be a runner, but after years of pounding, have switched to spinning, weights and hot yoga.

Easier on the joints.

Whenever I travel with friends, they all know, I’ll be out of the house/hotel/cabin early in the am, and not be back until I was soaked, stretched, and smiling again. I’d get comments ranging from “Again?” to “I wish I was that motivated” or “your nuts”.  Well, I am here to tell you I have some FABULOUS memories of my active travels that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Years ago, I was a runner, and my memories of running or hiking are literally priceless. I remember being on holiday in Venice, Italy, staying at the Hotel Cipriani back in the 80’s, and early in the morning when most of the town was sleeping, I would slip out of a back gate, and run the islands while the sun was coming up across the water on San Marco square with just the putt, putt sound of the little boats making early morning deliveries. I can see it to this day, with the elderly Italian men shouting a good natured, “Bella Americana”.

There were early morning runs in Hyde Park in London, biking the south of France, hiking Point Lobos State Park in CA, or UTE trail in Aspen, and just two years ago hiking Grand Canyon, SnoBowl, and Coconino Forest with my two dogs. The list is endless, and the memories of those times, pure magic to me.

Years ago, it was much harder to sort a workout than it is now, and thankfully, we now have millions of people choosing a wellness lifestyle that makes active travel attainable.  One of the things I love the most about Vacayou is the ability to find these wonderful resorts and wellness retreats with a host of options without spending days trying to search them out (which I have in the past).

As Susan Sontag said, “I haven’t been everywhere, but its on my list”.  Me too!   I just want to be sure to have wellness as a big part of it.
