Highlights

Adventures on the Gorge is nestled in the heart of West Virginia and has combined a premier location, industry expertise, and a deep enthusiasm for adventure to create a vacation experience unlike any other. Drawn to the rim of the New River Gorge by world-class whitewater, rock climbing, mountain biking, and hiking, the founders of Adventures on the Gorge were driven to create a resort that could live up to the natural wonders that surrounded it. So they took what nature has provided and added more than 47 years of outdoor experience, a devoted staff, and a drive to inspire others to experience the outdoors.

The result was the world’s premier adventure resort. Now Adventures on the Gorge is a jumping off point for adrenaline-packed adventures like Class V whitewater rafting and ziplining at speeds of up to 65 mph. It is also a basecamp for family-friendly excursions such as exploring a lake or learning to paddle rapids for the first time. At the end of the day, you come back to casual dining in an upscale environment with breathtaking views, drinks by the pool, beautiful cabins with wonderful views (or camping), and quality time with the people who matter most—far from the stresses and screens that fill everyday life.

The Basics

Where: New River Gorge, West Virginia (1 hour from Charleston)
When: April 1-September 7, 2020
What: Whitewater Rafting & Adventure Activities

Premier Adventure Resort

In 2007, the forefathers of Mountain River Tours, Class-VI River Runners, Songer Whitewater, and the Rivermen combined their strengths and joined together to create a vacation experience that didn’t yet exist—the world’s premier adventure resort.

Adventures on the Gorge not only provided outdoor adventures, but also a complete vacation package. They expanded the resort creating the Canyon Rim and Mill Creek campuses. Both had restaurants, bars, lodging, camping, and a plethora of other amenities including an amazing swimming pool with breathtaking views of the New RiverGorge and New RiverGorge Bridge.

Regardless of five-star cabins and delicious meals, at its heart, the company remains the product of gung-ho outdoor guides who want to share their sport with others so they too can experience the fulfillment that comes with being immersed in nature. The founders and guides have grown up paddling these rivers and exploring the mountains; their dedication is reflected in the devoted guests who continue to return year after year—for a lifetime of Adventures on the Gorge.

    Whitewater Rafting

The Lower New River is a favorite among everyone from first time rafters to whitewater enthusiasts. It steps up the pace with exciting whitewater rafting and over 25 rapids from Classes II – V. Between the rapids and drops there are pools of calm water where you can catch your breath and gather strength for the next challenge. This trip runs through the scenic New River Gorge, and finishes up right below the New River Gorge Bridge. Trip length and intensity varies based on water levels which change throughout the season. In the spring, the trip is usually 16 miles long, in the summer and fall it is typically 11 miles long. Both trips include a jump rock, swimmer’s rapid, riverside lunch, and over 25 other rapids.

The most popular family trip is the Upper New River with mild whitewater that offers gentle rapids and scenic views of the New River Gorge. This trip is ideal for families, scouts, and youth groups as an introduction to whitewater rafting. Larger rafts are used on high water days and duckies (small inflatable kayaks that hold 1 adult or 1 child and 1 adult) on normal days.

    Aerial Adventures

The TreeTops Zipline Canopy Tour will give you a different view of the surrounding forest. This activity consists of 10 ziplines, five sky bridges, a couple of short hikes, and a rappel at the end. Looking for a challenge where your whole group can participate? Look no further than TimberTrek Adventure Park! Explore the six (soon to be seven for 2020!) obstacle courses in the tree canopy expanding over four acres for ages 4 and up. You will be provided with harnesses, helmets, gloves, and instruction. All participants must wear closed-toed shoes. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and is appropriate for the day’s weather. Either shorts or pants are required (no skirts or dresses). You may bring your own gloves but they must have leather palms.

    Reservations

Advanced reservations are preferred and required for most activities. They are limited in their capacities for several activities due to regulations set forth by the Department of Natural Resources. Other activities are limited based on the guest to guide ratios that they set forth to protect your experience and their natural resources. Early reservations and prompt payments are the best way to insure your preferred dates and accommodations.

    Pricing Policy

All prices are per person except when stated otherwise. Youth discounts apply for those 12 and under when accompanied by at least one family member paying regular price.

    Trip Transfers

AOTG reserves the right to change the trip time for any adventure activity, river, river section, length of trip, boat size or number of guests per raft due to adverse or changing conditions or extremely high or low water. They also reserve the right to refuse participation of any guest for any activity who, in our judgment, is not physically or mentally capable of participating in the activity for which he or she has registered. Please pay attention to restrictions regarding weight, height or size for all activities. These restrictions are in place to protect you, not discriminate against you.

    Inclement Weather

AOTG trips generally go out rain or shine. River activities (rafting, fishing, kayaking, etc) still go in the case of thunderstorms as well. They reserve the right to cancel or postpone your Adventure Activity including but not limited to Canopy Tour, Ziplines, Rock Climbing, and TimberTrek if they feel the weather will hinder safety.

    Cancellation Protection and Procedures

Cancellations within 3 days of the start date or no-shows on the day of a trip will not be considered for any reimbursement. All cancellations must be made more than 30 days prior to the trip start date to be considered for reimbursement less a processing fee.

    Trip Cancellation Protection (TCP)

This protection entitles each participant to a full refund minus the TCP amount in the event of forced cancellation resulting from personal illness, injury, or death of an immediate family member or military deployment.
