We all eat it, love it, and perhaps even follow a food account or two on social media. Since working from home  (read eating from home) is here to stay, we need to shift our focus to promote a healthier eating style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While we all love to indulge in the yumminess of food, there\u2019s also the desire to live a fit and healthy lifestyle. Here are five food rules to follow for better health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-eat-real-food\">1. Eat Real Food<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s just that simple: eat real food. Avoid processed or canned food when possible. When ordering food or buying produce, ask yourself the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Was it ever alive?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Did it grow?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Did it encounter dirt?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can you picture it outside in nature?&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can answer yes to any or all of these questions, it\u2019s probably real food.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anything that is not real food is defined as an &#8220;edible food-like substance,&#8221; and is most certainly made up of modified forms of corn, soy, fructose and a mixture of chemicals designed to make it aesthetically pleasing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-eat-real-food-slowly-and-to-80-full\">2. Eat Real Food Slowly and to 80% Full<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything you eat, from cucumbers to cookies, should be consumed at the same pace: slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eating at a slow pace means chewing each bite 10-20 times and swallowing what\u2019s in your mouth before inserting another spoonful. Our tongues have 10,000 taste buds and we should take the time to savor every bite.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we eat fast, we also tend to overeat. It takes 20 minutes for our brain to realize our stomach is satisfied, so give your brain time to process so you don\u2019t overstuff!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-be-aware-of-foods-that-make-health-claims\">3. Be Aware of Foods that Make Health Claims<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Picture yourself at the meat counter at the grocery store. You rarely see labels that say \u201cexcellent source of protein\u201d or \u201cno added sugars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you ever see these labels, be cautious of what you\u2019re buying. The lasting effects of eating fast foods may lead to joints ache, chronic diseases or even worse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anywhere you can drive through to get calories to go breaks our first rule\u2014eat real food. Eating real food needs to be prioritized.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can start by meal prepping and shopping in the healthier section of the grocery store.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-avoid-only-counting-the-calories\">5. Avoid <em>Only<\/em> Counting the Calories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Allow me to explain. One serving of almonds is about 160 calories.
