How do you actually measure something as subjective as adventure? The index weighs trail density, public land per capita, weather conditions and how strongly the local economy supports outdoor recreation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That got us thinking about what makes a state worth exploring. Adventure isn&#8217;t reserved exclusively for the most rugged corners of the map. A dense, year-round trail network matters just as much as scenery. So is accessibility to rivers, peaks, coastlines and public acreage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best part? You don&#8217;t have to rough it. A morning trek can easily lead to an afternoon at a spa, while a grueling day on a mountain bike can end with a soothing soak in a natural hot spring. Leaving the pavement behind reveals a labyrinth of red-rock canyons, slickrock mountain biking and narrow slot canyons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The &#8220;Mighty 5&#8221; national parks draw the biggest crowds, but the vast public lands stretching between them hold just as much magic.
